2012 Terms and Conditions


Definitions

“RNZRSA” means the Royal New Zealand Returned and Services’ Association, consisting of affiliated local Returned Services’ Associations and their national body.

“The National Bank” means The National Bank, part of ANZ National Bank Limited.

“Competition” means The National Bank RSA Cyril Bassett VC Speech Competition 2012 .

The competition

1. The RNZRSA is the promoter and organiser of the Competition.

2. The National Bank is the principal sponsor of the Competition.

3. Entry into the Competition opens Wednesday 1 February 2012 at 8am and closes Saturday 25 February 2012 at 5.00pm.

4. All students wishing to take part in the competition must complete and submit the online competition registration form.

5. Competition registration must be completed in full including name and contact details for competitors and their supporting teacher.

6. Contact will be made by the RNZRSA via email to inform entrants and their schools of regional final times and locations. 

7. Supporting teachers must liaise with the RNZRSA to furnish one entry per school for the regional final in their area.

8. Regional finals will be held in eight regions.

9. Regions are determined by the RNZRSA geographic regions which can be found at www.rsa.org.nz/findrsa/index.cfm

10. The winner of each regional final will proceed to the national final. In the event that a regional winner is unable to attend the national final, the organisers reserve the right to select an alternative regional finalist after consultation with the judges.

11. The decision of the judges at regional and national competitions will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

12. The national final will take place on Monday 2 April in Wellington where the national winner will be announced.

13. The RNZRSA reserve the right to extend, cancel or amend the Competition at any time.

14. The RNZRSA’s decisions on all matters regarding the Competition are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Eligibility

15. To be eligible to enter the Competition you must:

a) have completed the online registration form at http://rsa.org.nz/remem/speech_comp_details.htm;

b) be a Year 12 or 13 student at a New Zealand Secondary School and have the consent of a parent or guardian to enter;

c) be a New Zealand citizen residing in New Zealand at the time of entry and during the competition;

d) either hold a current and valid passport or be able to obtain a passport before 2 April 2012;

e) be able to travel to Gallipoli for approximately 10-15 days between Sunday 15 April and Sunday 29 April 2012 accompanied by a parent/guardian or substitute, or chaperone, as approved or nominated by the RNZRSA. (The RNZRSA will notify actual dates closer to the time).

16. The following entries shall be deemed invalid:

a) any entries that infringe the intellectual property right of third parties or that are plagiarised; and

b) any entries that do not comply with these terms and conditions.

National winner

17. The National Winner will travel to Gallipoli to experience the 2012 Anzac Commemorations, as arranged by the RNZRSA, plus receive a digital camera and laptop to record their experience. The travel package includes flights, transfers, accommodation and some meals, plus a NZ$1000 travel fund for all other costs.

18. Should the national winner be unable to travel on the dates notified, the RNZRSA reserves the right to transfer the national winner’s prize, excluding laptop, digital camera and trophy, to another finalist.

19. The national winner may be required:

a) To participate in media interviews or promotion arranged by The National Bank  and/or the RNZRSA for the purposes of profiling and promoting the Competition and the winner;

b) to convey their experience via a number of communication channels as arranged by the RNZRSA.

20. The national winner:

a) shall make the organisers aware of anything that may prevent them from fully participating in the journey or activities planned as part of the trip to Gallipoli; and

b) shall remain in contact with the organisers to ensure full arrangements can be made for the journey.

21. The national winner will be required to meet appropriate standards of conduct at all times. The use of drugs or illegal substances, physical violence, illegal activity of any kind or inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in the organisers withdrawing the winner from the trip and arranging for an early return to New Zealand. Any costs associated with such action would be the winners’ responsibility.

Prize pool

22. Regional winners will receive $1000 in a National Bank Saver Account, a further $1000 cheque for their school, plus a commemorative plaque or certificate. Account opening criteria apply. A copy of the General Disclosure Statement published by ANZ National Bank Limited is available from any branch of The National Bank, part of ANZ National Bank Limited.

23. The national winner will receive a trip to Gallipoli with a parent/guardian, substitute or chaperone as approved or nominated by the RNZRSA to experience the 2012 Anzac Commemorations, a digital camera and laptop to record their experience, a further $1000 travel fund, the national winner’s trophy to be displayed at their school, and a miniature trophy to retain.

24. Prizes will be presented at the regional and national finals.

25. The national winner’s prize is arranged and provided by the RNZRSA.

26. The national winner’s prize is not transferable or exchangeable and is not redeemable for cash. If for any reason the prize becomes unavailable, the RNZRSA may substitute an alternative equivalent prize without notice.

27. The RNZRSA reserves the right to abandon or withdraw any aspect of the trip or the prize pool at any time.

28. By claiming the prize, regional and national winners consent to The National Bank and /or RNZRSA making use of their name and/or photograph(s) for publicity purposes as determined by The RNZRSA and /or The National Bank.

Personal information

29. The personal information that you provide to enter this Competition will be held by the RNZRSA and will be used for the purposes of administering the Competition. With your prior approval the RNZRSA and / or The National Bank will use your email address to provide you with information about The National Bank RSA Cyril Bassett VC Speech Competition. You have the right to access and request correction of the personal information held about you by contacting the organisers.

Warranties and liabilities

30. Neither The National Bank or the RNZRSA shall be liable for any loss, damage, personal injury or death whatsoever (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) which is suffered or sustained arising out of or in connection with the Competition, the taking or using of a prize, or any act or omission (whether negligent or not) of The National Bank or the RNZRSA or any of their associated agencies, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.

31. Where goods or services are supplied by third parties, neither The National Bank or the RNZRSA warrant the quality of those goods and/or services or the suitability for your particular circumstances. To the extent permitted by law, The National Bank and the RNZRSA exclude liability for any loss suffered as a result of the use of those goods and/or services.

Competitors’ liabilities

32. By entering the Competition you are deemed to accept all these terms and conditions.
